ACS Bali Admissions

Introduction

Our school’s admissions policy is designed to ensure a fair and transparent process for selecting students who demonstrate the aptitude and potential to thrive in our academically challenging environment. We believe in providing a high-quality education that prepares students for future success. As part of our selective policy, we require applicants to undergo entrance tests to assess their academic abilities and suitability for our school.

To help with long term planning, this website indicates the admissions process for Grades 3 – 6 in August 2024, plus the process for all students in Grades 1 – 12 in subsequent years.

Admissions Process

ACS Bali is a selective school catering to students of above average ability. All students will sit an online admissions test involving reading, mathematics and non-verbal reasoning assessments. Also, there will be an informal interview with a senior member of staff. A decision on whether to accept a student for enrolment will be made by the Principal, based on the admissions test, the interview and previous school records.

Entrance Tests and Interview

The entrance tests evaluate applicants’ proficiency in core subjects. The scores obtained in the online entrance tests will form a substantial basis for admissions decisions. Higher scores indicate a stronger academic fit with our school’s rigorous curriculum. For further details see below.

All applicants for Grades 3 and above undertake an oral interview in English with a senior staff member to assess their communication skills, personal qualities, and motivation to join our school community. The interview will also provide an opportunity for applicants to ask questions about our school.

From 2025, for Grades 1 and 2, applicants will be informally evaluated by teacher observation as they support them with activities and online assessments.

Applicants’ previous academic records, including report cards or transcripts, may be considered alongside the entrance test results. However, the entrance test scores will carry more weight in the admissions’ decisions.

Test Preparation: Our school encourages applicants to prepare for the entrance tests by reviewing the relevant subject material covered in their current grade level.

 Entrance Assessments:

Grades 1 – 6

  • Applicants sit the online Cambridge Primary Insight Core assessments in Reading, Mathematics, and Developed Ability (20 mins each, approximately one hour). An oral interview with a senior member of staff is also undertaken.
  • Grade 1 and 2 applicants will be guided through the online assessments with a senior member of staff, and they may also be placed in an appropriate class and observed for 1 – 2 hours to assess English language ability, social skills and school readiness.

For secondary school admission from August 2025 and subsequent years

Grades 7 – 10

  • Applicants sit the online Cambridge CEM Select Entrance Assessments (approximately one hour). These assessments rely on Reading and Mathematics foundations; and assesses Numerical, Verbal, and Non-Verbal abilities.
  • An oral interview with a senior member of staff is also undertaken.

Grades 11 – 12

  • Applicants either submit their formal external qualification such as IGCSE or O Level results or sit the Cambridge CEM IBE online assessments (approximately 50 minutes covering Vocabulary, Mathematics, Non-verbal and Skills).
  • Additional hard copy assessments in Mathematics and Science may be conducted to assess suitability to take those subjects at Higher Level.
  • An oral interview with a senior member of staff is also undertaken with all applicants.

External Examination Results for Consideration

The Cambridge IGCSE or Singaporean MOE national/external examinations may be used as a substitute to the school’s own admissions tests (depending on point of entry) with students requiring:

Grade 7 Admission

  • An aggregate of 18 or less in Singapore’s PSLE with Express stream eligibility.
  • Applicants must also achieve a minimum AL5 grade in English, Mathematics and Science.

Grade 11 IBDP Admission – O Level Results

  • L1R5 aggregate computation of 18 or below.
  • A1, A2 or B3 grade in that subject is required to take an IB subject at HL.
  • The school does not deduct Bonus Points for participation in CCA, VIA or Higher Mother Tongue programmes for admission purposes.
  • Students must have studied English, Science, Mathematics and a Humanities subject.

Grade 11 IBDP Admission – IGCSE Results

  • A minimum of 3 x A grades and 3 x B grades
  • An A*, A or high B grade in that subject is required to take an IB subject at HL.
  • Students must have studied English, a Science, Mathematics and a Humanities subject.
  • Internal students must also meet these external admissions criteria for IGCSE in order to gain entrance to the IBDP. There is no automatic progression to IBDP for internal students.

Note: The Rp 6,000,000 non-refundable admission application fee paid by parents on application covers all aspects of the admission process including online testing. There is no extra fee to be paid.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

As described in the introduction above, the school is an academically selective school with the expectation that enrolled students can perform at the highest levels of the curriculum that we offer. Consequently, the school is structured and resourced with the goal of creating an environment where students perform at the highest standards. Where a student has a Special Educational Need, the school will determine whether the need can be catered for in the environment described above or if the need is such that the school cannot provide the level of educational support required for the student. To guide this decision process the school will:

  • Provide an interview with the Learning Support teacher.
  • Consider supporting documentation, such as any Educational Psychological Report.
  • Consult the previous or currently enrolled school.
  • Consider past academic achievement and the level of support provided for that attainment level.
  • Consider current levels of support required by existing students to see whether there is capacity to cater for an additional student with SEN.

Siblings

Applicants with siblings who are currently at the school will be given special consideration in order to maintain the family link at the school.

Age and Grade Guidelines

Grade placement at ACS Bali is according to age. Children must have reached the minimum age for that grade level by 31 August in the year of entry as per the table below:

Junior School Senior School
Grade Age range Grade Age range
1 6 years + 7 12 years +
2 7 years + 8 13 years +
3 8 years + 9 14 years +
4 9 years + 10 15 years +
5 10 years + 11 16 years +
6 11 years + 12 17 years +

International Students

Non-Indonesian students must have either a Dependent KITAS* or a Student KITAS* visa to attend school in Indonesia.

Students whose parents have a Working KITAS will be eligible for a Dependent KITAS. Any non-Indonesian student not eligible to access a KITAS through a working parent will need to apply for a Student KITAS to legally attend school in Indonesia.

In its first year, ACS Bali will only accept primary students who are living with a parent in Bali. In other words, it will not accept students living away from home on an independent basis.

Once the new campus is opened and the school accepts students in secondary school, it will be able to consider ACS Yayasan sponsorship for Student KITAS applicants in the secondary school.

A secondary school boarding hostel is also planned, able to cater for independent international students on a Student KITAS (plus Indonesian students from other parts of Indonesia).

* A KITAS is a permit (renewable up to 5 consecutive years) allowing individuals to reside in Indonesia as a temporary resident, either to work, accompany working parents or attend school, depending upon the type of KITAS.

Admissions Decision

The final admissions decision will be made by the Principal. The decision will be based on a holistic review of the applicants’ entrance test scores, interview performance, and academic records, taking into account the school’s ethos, traditions, philosophy and values. Successful applicants will have a genuine and intrinsic love of learning; and are able to assimilate into all aspects of school life. ACS Bali also strives to maintain a balanced cultural diversity in an international setting for students to learn in a multi-national and multi-cultural environment. The final decision will be communicated to parents or guardians in writing. Exact scores in the tests will not be provided.

All enrolments are conditional until the required fees are paid. Payment of the fees confirms the enrolment for both the family and the school.

Wait List

If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the available spaces, a wait list may be established. Applicants on the wait list will be considered for admission if a vacancy arises within the specified timeframe. Wait list positions will be determined based on the applicants’ ranking following the admissions criteria.
