ACS Bali Curriculum

ACS Bali is an academically selective school that offers a blend of the academic rigour of an Asian school, with the holistic education approach of an international school.

ACS Bali’s approach is to promote a genuine love of learning and encourage creative, critical and reflective thinking in order to attain the best academic achievement within each student’s capabilities. The school achieves this through providing high quality learning that develops learners who can apply, evaluate, reflect, inquire, and generate ideas that enrich the community.

At ACS Bali the curriculum will be the Cambridge International Curriculum from Grade 1 up to Grade 10 (IGCSE) followed by the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12. As the below diagram shows, ACS Bali will have a similar structure to the Indonesia national system – primary, middle school and high school – except that the middle school at ACS Bali will extend to Grade 10 in order to complete the IGCSE qualification. In the Junior School (Elementary School) from Grade 1 – 6 the curriculum will be the Cambridge International Primary curriculum. The Senior School is divided into the four-year secondary school programme for Grades 7 – 10 culminating in the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE); followed by the two year high school International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12.

Junior School

ACS Bali will offer the Cambridge International Primary curriculum to students in the Junior School (Grades 1 – 6) supplemented by the compulsory Indonesia national curriculum subjects of Bahasa Indonesia, Pancasila (Civics) and Religion.

The Cambridge International Primary curriculum is an internationally recognized educational framework developed by the University of Cambridge and used by over 160 countries around the world. As Cambridge says, “this curriculum aims to provide a well-rounded and comprehensive foundation for students, fostering their intellectual and personal development.” The curriculum focuses on engaging children in global topics, getting them to think critically and develop a passion for learning. The primary curriculum is designed to provide learners with a solid foundation, which they can build upon as they progress through the school.

It is envisaged that Grade 6 students will sit the Cambridge Checkpoint assessments at the end of the year in order to gauge their progress individually and collectively.

Secondary School IGCSE

It is planned that ACS Bali will also offer the Cambridge international curriculum in the secondary school (plus the compulsory Indonesia national curriculum subjects) up to and including Grade 10, at which stage the students will sit the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). The IGCSE is an internationally recognised formal qualification, and the world’s most popular international qualification for 14- to 16-year-olds. IGCSE graduates at ACS Bali may continue to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Grades 11 and 12 or join university foundation programmes.

Grade 10 Foundation IB

The IGCSE qualification is a two-year programme for students in Grades 9 and 10. Students who enter the school in Grade 10 are unable to sit the IGCSE examinations as they will have missed too much curriculum content. Instead, they will join the one-year Foundation IB programme. This course is a non-examination course and it is devoted to preparing students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme beginning in Grade 11.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme

ACS Bali will seek authorisation from the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) to offer the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) beginning with the first cohort in August 2027.

The aim of the IBDP will be to enable, equip and empower the students to complete the full Diploma Programme over the two years to develop them to be ready, qualified and accepted for further studies at the university of their choice.

The IBDP is a very rigorous course where even the most academically talented students are fully stretched to capacity. Each IB student will select six subjects – three and higher level and three at standard level – plus take the Theory of Knowledge subject and write an Extended Essay of 5000 words. They will also participate in a compulsory and holistic CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service) programme. This course is the premier pre-college academic programme for international students and it prepares students very well for university study.

ACS Bali will employ trained and well qualified university counsellors to support graduating students apply and be accepted at the university of their choice. The school will continue the ACS tradition of preparing students for entry to top universities around the world.
