8 August 2018
International Day was celebrated after the National Day assembly on 8 August. Students left the Sports Hall and were greeted by the wonderful smell of food from around the world. Tacos, Prawn Cakes, Toppoki, Ramle Burgers, and many more items were donated by PSP. Students were treated to free food samples from eight different countries.
The food stalls, New Block classrooms, and one performance tent were set up to promote a carnival atmosphere. All students received a passport to document the experience as they walked around participating in all the activities.
At the main state, emceed by Pannapa (Mook) in Year 5, the school was entertained by a mix of music, dance, and instruments from around the world. Multiple CCA groups including the Gu Zheng, Guitar, Contemporary Singers, and Dance performed. Individual students also sang, danced, and performed in bands.
Students also were able to visit eight cultural rooms organised and led by students. A group of students in international dress performed and led fellow students in activities. Students played games, danced, made Origami, rolled chapatis, tasted treats, and learned to write their name in various languages. The cultural rooms included Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan, Korea, China, Thailand, and Punjabi. A new addition this year was learning to dance the Flamenco Dance from Ms Tania Goh, a Spanish Dance instructor.
The day finished with another new addition – a final performance sponsored by the Punjabi Club. Mr Burrough was a great sport getting up on stage and leading a dance with a Bhangra group.
Thanks to PSP for the generous gift of food and for helping to set up, run, and tear down the food stalls. Thanks to all the parents, teachers, and students who put in many hours to make International Day a fun experience for all.
