16 November 2018
Speech Day, the official last day of school, marks the end of the academic year and recognises the individual and group successes of students as well as teachers.
This year we celebrated this momentous day on 16 November and we had the honour of having Professor Simon SC Tay as our guest of honour – an old boy. Reverend Loretta Lim opened the event with an opening prayer and with our Year 5 emcees Jaeger and Tricia, Speech Day commenced. The Philharmonic Orchestra took the stage and performed titles such as Remember Me from the motion picture Coco as well as Grand March from Tannhauser by Richard Wagner. Both performances received thunderous applause. However, performances aside, there were prize presentations for each year as well as the reflections from each division. As each year group of students went on stage to collect their subject prizes, students, parents, guests and teachers applauded their achievements.
Speech Day does not only recognise the achievements of some individuals – it is the celebration of the successes of the school as a whole, and what we have accomplished together. Aside from subject prizes, our senior division Vice Principal Mrs Tan Siew Hoon presented the Colours awards to students who showcased excellent leadership with an overall holistic profile. Not to mention, Mdm Chung Hung Tho and Mr Michael Patterson also gave out the Performing Arts, Interest Group and Sports awards respectively to students for their contributions to this school year. Our junior division Vice Principal Dr Achter gave out the House awards.
