The Barrett Music Competition has been a long-standing music tradition set up by our first Principal, Rev. Dr John Barrett, to promote an appreciation for music and to raise the standards of music–making.
Since 2017, the Barrett Music Committee, supported by the Electro-Acoustic Ensemble CCA, has introduced new competition categories such as Original Music Composition and Ethnic, as well as space explorations for the competition concert, to expand the horizons for presentations, creativity, budding and experienced musicians.
We are thankful and are blessed by the students’ enthusiasm and excellence shown in their delightful performances from all three divisions. The auditions had seen a total of 22 contestants competing in five categories, namely, Instrumental (Piano, Strings, Percussion and Composition) Category and Vocal Category.
This year, the competition was held at the Black Box on level 6 of the Library Block.
11 finalists made it into the finals, with the Best Overall Music Prize awarded to Sara Goh, 5 TCT, while the Individual category winners are Jarell Tan, 3 TCT (Piano Category), Tamaara Shanmugaratnam, 1 Oldham (Vocal Category) and Shane Chen, 1 SVM (Composition Category).
Congratulations to all the winners!
